This course is designed for hospice volunteers, health professionals, caregivers, massage therapists, family and friends.
Christine teaches the effective, safe massage techniques for the chronically ill, disabled, terminally ill, and those with spinal cord injuries. It includes proven techniques for use at home or in institutions, in bed or wheelchair. Its’ benefits include the enhancement of circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems.
This summer we will be holding two 5-day sessions. Both will cover the basics of Palliative Massage (including wheelchair massage) and are open to medical professionals as well as massage therapists and the public. The wheelchair massage section provides details of twelve steps for greater flexibility, elasticity, preventing pressure sores and offering relief for computeritis. The 24-hour wheelchair assignment is a popular feature of this course.
This course qualifies for provincial continuing education credits for professional massage therapists . All participants of this couse will receive completion certificates upon successful participation in the written and oral practical examination. On-site clinical practicums are conducted in the Nelson community.
